Dogs are naturally curious, so they like to explore around them. But in this world, there are many things that can hurt dogs. Whether it is minor or serious, accidents are inevitable. As a dog's owner, what you can do is master some treatments for daily injuries to dogs.
1. If you get injured in a fight, two dogs will inevitably get some lottery. Generally speaking, dog fights can cause harm to the skin and soft tissues, as dogs’ teeth can cause perforations and tear in their skin. The degree of injury may range from mild to severe, and deep wounds may also affect tissues such as muscles, body walls, and even bones. Most dogs will bite their necks when fighting, but any part of the body may be injured. Injuries of varying degrees will affect the head, limbs, chest, abdomen, etc.
Dogs are active by nature and are always prone to coloring. For these common injuries, the owner will get the small dogs that are more susceptible to serious injuries after being attacked by large dogs. If your puppy is bitten by another dog and throws it, it may cause nerve damage or internal injuries. In addition, dogs carry a large amount of bacteria in their mouths, which are particularly prone to infection after being bitten. Traumatic tissue caused by bites is easier to treat in the first hour after injury. If the wound is not treated for a long time, treatment may become more complicated and the wound is more difficult to heal. Therefore, after finding that the dog is bitten, the owner can cut off the hair near the wound, then apply some 5% gentian purple liquid wine, and then send the dog to the hospital for treatment in time.
2. Eye Trauma
Dog's eyes are also vulnerable to injury. Some thorny plants can cause eye injury when the dog is playing outside. In addition, dogs may also be scratched when fighting. Another common cause of eye injury is that debris from the road and air can enter the dog's eyes, causing abrasions.
If you notice that the dog is squinting, frequent tears, pus, redness, bulging or swollen eyes, the owner can rinse the wound with normal saline (about 500 ml), then apply erythromycin eye ointment, and take the dog to see a doctor in time. Because eye injuries can easily worsen, if detected early, many eye trauma can be cured with drugs.
3. Limb injury
When a dog's limb is injured, it is likely to limp. Limping may be caused by fractures of one or more bones in the legs or paws, and fractures and joint dislocations are common causes. The fracture can be simply fixed with a bandage, gauze or wooden board, and then the dog is taken to the hospital for treatment.
In addition, soft tissue damage may occur on the dog's legs, such as sprains or strains of the muscles. This can also occur if the dog uses too much force when running or playing. If the dog has soft tissue damage, it is usually necessary to treat it with medication and give it adequate rest. Surgery may be required if there is a serious soft tissue injury.
4. Tail injury
Some dogs, especially large dogs like Golden Retrievers or Labradors, are particularly prone to "Happy Tail Syndrome". Because their tails are big and heavy, when excited, they may hit the tail hard on a hard surface, which can easily hit or scratch. These types of tail injuries can be difficult to treat, because when the dog is healed, the tail is damaged again when wagging its tail again. During this period, tools such as bandages may be needed to limit the dog's tail movement.
In addition, sometimes the dog's tail may be loose and weak, just hanging softly. When a dog swims too hard, it may cause minor sprains or strains. This symptom usually disappears on its own after a few days. If the dog's tail has not recovered after a few days, it is best to take it to see a doctor.
5. Oral injury
When a dog eats hard food such as bones, the bones may get stuck around the jaw and canine teeth, or scratch the inner wall of the mouth. Hard food can easily cause harm to teeth, gums, tongue, and other soft tissues. If the dog's oral mucosa is damaged, the owner can use 1% saline or 2% boric acid solution to clean it, and then apply 2% gentian purple liquid. If there is a large laceration and tooth fracture, oral surgery is usually required.
6. Cut or scratch
Dogs are active and like to jump around, so cutting or scratching is "common". When a dog runs past a sharp object, such as nails, glass or sharp stones, it can easily cause claw injuries. Even hard foreign objects may be embedded between the foot pads or toes. When the dog is found to be scratched, the owner can use antibiotics to treat the wound to avoid inflammation and infection. If the injury is serious, the owner should be sent to the hospital for treatment in time.
Dogs are not like us, they know how to bandage themselves or seek medical treatment when they are injured. They feel pain and will only wail or lick continuously to relieve the pain. Therefore, as the most trusted owner of a dog, if you find that there is an abnormality in its body, you should help them in time~
