There are many environmentally friendly tableware on the market, and the materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. How should I choose? Wu Zhanpei, head of the Eco-Preparation Management Section of Pingtung County Environmental Protection Bureau, said that when choosing environmentally friendly tableware, you should consider the purpose, such as whether microwave heating will be used, or whether warming is required, and then choose suitable materials from it.

Plastic containers have the advantages of being light and easy to carry, "but not all plastic materials are suitable for contacting food." Chen Yaoren, director of the Food and Drug Administration Section of the Health Bureau of Pingtung County, said that in order to ensure food safety and health, three major points should be paid attention to when choosing edible plastic containers, "Product Outsourcing Labels", "Selecting suitable materials", and "Avoid containers with color that are too colored".

●Material name and heat resistance; those composed of two or more materials should be marked separately.

●Purity weight, capacity or quantity.

●The name, phone number and address of the manufacturer that is responsible for.

●Origin (country).

●Date of manufacturing; if it is of temporary effectiveness, the validity date or validity period shall be added.

●Precautions for use or other warnings such as microwave.

●Other matters announced by the central competent authorities.

In addition to the regulations stipulated by law, food utensils, food containers or packaging should also be noted, "purpose for food contact" or the same consent; or food utensils, food containers or packaging with plastic material on the food contact should be noted, they should be noted, for repeated use or for one-time use, or the same consent.

"When people choose to purchase, they must confirm whether the packaging label information is complete, especially the material name and heat resistance." Chen Yuren reminds that food utensils, food containers or packaging containing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) plastic material on food contact should not directly contact with high-greased and high-temperature foods or equivalent to the meaning of consent. If this type of food container with plastic material is filled with high temperature or high oil, it is easy to produce plasticizers or other toxic substances.

2. Choose suitable materials

Chen Yuren said that the suitable methods of use of each plastic material are different. Common materials are as follows:

PP (No. 5): polypropylene, which has high heat resistance, is suitable for packing hot soup, hot food, and is also resistant to acid and stew. It is a relatively safe choice.

LDPE(No. 4)/HDPE(No. 2): Low-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene, suitable for containers of acidic foods, such as juice, but their heat resistance is lower than PP.

PS(No. 6): Polystyrene, commonly used in disposable tableware, but high temperature or long-term contact should be avoided.

PET(No. 1): Polyethylene paraphthalate, commonly seen in Baute bottles, is not heat-resistant, and it is not recommended to use it repeatedly.

PVC(No. 3): Polyvinyl chloride, used less frequently in food containers, may contain plasticizers, so food should be avoided.

3. Avoid coloring too much.

Chen Yuren pointed out that the original color of plastic containers is mostly white, translucent or transparent. Most of the colored containers are dyed over. The dye may contain additives and is not recommended for long-term use, especially when high temperatures or when contacting grease.

If you want to choose a colored container, it is recommended to choose products with plain colors inside and color patterns on the outer layer, and avoid contact with high temperatures or grease.

Principles for using plastic food utensils

1. Change immediately when there are scratches, wear or abnormal color in tableware or containers.

2. Avoid repeated use of disposable plastic containers, such as baby bottles, plastic bags, etc.

3. If disposable tableware cannot be avoided, try to avoid serving high-temperature or acidic foods.

4. Before purchasing environmentally friendly tableware, you should carefully read the product instructions and use them correctly according to the instructions.

5. Choose products with good reputation and clear labeling to avoid buying low-priced products or color that are too rich.
